- Dog Volunteer Inquiry
We can’t thank you enough for your interest in our Volunteer Program. Volunteers have been an absolutely critical part of this organization’s 46 year history.
We ask some in-depth questions here to help people think more about what volunteering in a shelter looks like - especially from the dogs' point of view. We have observed a significant shift in animal welfare in recent years and are dealing with a tougher population - dogs coming in with considerable behavioral challenges and past traumas. We have had incredible success, helping these dogs through the difficult transition to a shelter and then into homes, but it requires a great deal of consideration to their safety and well-being - as well as that of the people who work with them.
We provide ongoing training in the form of handouts, videos, a mentorship program, and on-site opportunities with a certified trainer. That said, we do have to make the determination at times that this program may not be the right fit, and in the interest of safety for all, may not be able to offer a hands-on role with the dogs.
Again, we thank you so much for your interest and passion for animals. We encourage you to take a look at this inquiry, and hopefully fill it out to learn more about the program!
